I can't believe we took Torbs home over 13 months ago! Not only is she a totally spoiled brat...she's absolutely gorgeous as well. Every where I take her I always get stopped and asked if she is a show dog. Her face is similar to Magic but I think she probably has the body of her dad. Though she's on the shorter side, she's one strong beefy girl, weighing in at around 75-80 lbs. Her personality cracks me up. I sometimes wonder if she's dog or human. Like any typical lab she can't get enough of the water. The first time I took her swimming, Torbs the fearless, ran up onto a rock and jumped right in and get this...even retrieved a stick from the bottom.
I can't thank you enough for all the hard work you did in helping create my wonderful child with fur. You have added so much joy into my husband and I's life that we really can't thank you enough. I'm currently trying to get him to consider adding another addition to our family. I don't know if it will happen and I can't promise anything but if by chance one of your litters produces a yellow lab please let me know. I would love to have the first rights to refuse. When I get a chance I will get some updated pictures of her for you. I think many of the ones Bob sent you are of her when she was about 60ish lbs and sometimes I can't believe how incredibly muscular and big she has gotten. If a family ever needs a recommendation please don't hesitate to give them my e-mail, I would love to give a great reference for you. Keep up the good work!
Take Care,
Rebecca and Torby
Sue -- I hope you (and the dogs) are well. Here's a brief update on Bella:
She is healthy, happy, and driving Casco nuts (hooray!). She weighs about 23.4 pounds as of Thursday, and is going biweekly to the vet for shots and check-up, etc. She has been on several 3+ mile hikes, with no complaints and no lagging. This week she began to swim, for brief periods. She's a pro at crossing small streams. She has asked for (and I have given) very little assistance over logs, etc. She's a tough little dog. Casco and she get along fine -- no arguments, but they roughhouse regularly (initiated in every instance by Bella). She's got a great personality and is a loving little dog. She is good with children (every friend I have who has kids has been by to see her) and with other dogs. Needless to say, my son is over the moon, and the two of them are becoming fast friends.
Thank you again for such a wonderful dog. Enjoy the rest of the summer.L
Sue-We are so sorry we haven't gotten in touch sooner. I guess our only excuse is that we have been having so much fun with Nimitz. We can't thank you enough for this wonderful addition to our family. He has certainly made our lives more interesting. After several couch cushions, a lilac bush and more shoes than we can count, we finally learned our lesson that a tired lab is a good lab. We love to take Nimitz hiking around a local lake. We hike, he swims...constantly. We couldn't keep him out of the water if we tried and he seems more at home there than on land. Nimitz's first real swim was in the Atlantic Ocean on Cape Cod. My parents have a house there, and we bring him with us whenever we go. He loves the ocean, and he loves the Cape. He starts to whine as soon as he can smell it in the car. He was on the Cape with us last summer when I proposed to Debbie and will be with us next November when we get married...even though the women keep telling me he is not invited.I'm sending some pictures of Nimitz along. We hope all is well and we'd love to see you guys soon. Nimitz has made our lives richer and fuller and we can't thank you enough. Thanks again,Matt and DebbieAlthough not from one of our puppy families, I had to include the following with permission.Hi Sue, just wanted to send a short message. I happen to have an english breed yellow Lab (Quinn) and was at Powder Ridge vet today and the women working there ask me if I got him from Powder Ridge Labs. I said no but she told me a little bit about your business so I had to check out your site. I had tears in my eyes just looking at the beautiful puppies and reading all the wonderful stories. We are not in the market at the moment (we have 2 dogs and a cat) but I will surely keep you in mind in the future. What a great thing you are doing posting all the pictures and keeping in touch with the families. I think that is so awesome. You just don't see that every day.
Take care
MelanieHi Sue,
I hope this e-mail finds you well and that you're having a fabulous summer - I can't believe it's almost August!
I just thought I would write to give you an update on Lucy: she is an absolutely amazing dog and we could not be happier. She is completely house-trained and is in her second week of puppy manners class (she's the star of the class!). We've been taking her everywhere that we go, her favorite place by far is the lake - what a swimmer! The first time we took her, she dove right in and started swimming. The attached pictures are right after her first trip to the lake (don't worry, we were just drying off her collar!). She's not a big fan of taking walks around the neighborhood, but she's getting used to it. She much prefers the long hikes in the woods with JoelPatrick. She definitely has a stubbornness to her: a few weeks ago she didn't want to take a walk so we dropped the leash and started walking without her, as the vet had assured us she would follow. What does she do? Pick up her leash and high tail it home. I have to say, we felt pretty silly standing out in the road by ourselves without our dog! She is such a happy pup and we are so thankful we said yes the day you called to ask if we wanted her - it was definitely meant to be :)
We just want to thank you again so much for everything that you did for us and for Lucy. She is the best dog and we love her so much. We can't wait to share many, many happy years with her!
Sharon, JoelPatrick and Lucy
Hi Sue,We haven't been in touch for a while, but we wanted to update you on our life with Nimitz. He turned four this May and we can't believe how much time has passed, since he still runs around like a puppy. Every time we take him out, people ask where we got him and comment on what a beautiful dog he is. He is incredibly sweet and is great with the three other dogs in our extended family. He loves to swim and we take him to a nearby lake as often as we can.In May, just after Nimitz' birthday, we were blessed with the birth of our son, Henry. Nimitz has been unbelievable with Hank. He watches him sleep and is amazingly gentle when he sniffs him in his bassinette. He can't wait for Hank to be big enough to play and will often drop a tennis ball in front of him, hoping to have a new partner for fetch. We couldn't be happier with our dog and I never stop recommending Powder Ridge Labs to anyone looking for a Labrador. Every day we have with Nimitz is better because he is there. I really can't say enough about him. He is an incredible companion who loves to hike, swim, play in the yard, and cuddle on the couch on a rainy day. He is happy to see me every morning when I wake up and when I walk in the door after work. When you let us take "black" home, I had no idea how much he would change my life. He is the type of dog that makes life long dog lovers out of everyone he meets.Thank you so much for blessing us with this wonderful dog. Our lives are so much better for having met you. I'm sending along some pictures of Nimitz. Please feel free to use them and this email on your website.Thank you again,Matt and Debbie
Hi Sue,Glad to see the "boys" are doing well, I love the last photo of the two of them.Wanted to share a story about your grandson, last week, he was out playing with Tim in the yard, he was jumping for something that Tim had thrown. He came down and he started to limp a little, but he kept playing. Later that night we saw that he cracked one of his nails. We took him to the vet, they did their thing and Behr came home.He was kinda of dopey, so Tim and I were laying with him on the floor, giving him all kinds of attention, much to Jake's dislike. As he came out of it, he would wobble over to one of us and lift his paw and whimper and of course, we were all over our little guy. We carried him out to pee and poop, carried him back in, special treats, the whole nine yards. The morning after his visit to the vet, Tim took the day off just to make sure he was ok. He started the morning off, all whiney, holding his paw up, cocking his head to give us the most help me look you could imagine. I almost cried going to work. Tim calls me an hour or so after I went to work to tell me, that the little SOB, was out in the back yard, running around, having Jake chase him and playing like nothing was wrong!! There was no more whining, lifting of the paw, sad eyes, more like a "Gotcha" look, especially when he knew he was busted by Tim!! It was so funny, when I came home from work that night, he did the same to me, "Gotcha ya". He is quite the character for sure.Am glad you decided to continue breeding. You put a lot of love into it.Take careBob, Tim and of course Behr
